Countries in Asia are creating increasingly stringent data protection laws and ramping up their enforcement of them. This means that companies with Asian dealings facing U.S. government investigations or lawsuits could inadvertently face criminal prosecution and penalties in Asia if local data protection laws are not observed. If responsive documents are not obtained, however, companies could face sanctions in the United States.
