It seems that new ideas are hard to come by with all the patent litigation in the air and Apple v Samsung is no exception. Samsung’s Galaxy Tab is very similar in looks to the iPad. The two tablets are both, well, tablet-shaped and slim with a large screen. In an attempt to refute allegations of patent infringement, Samsung has countered with their best litigating movie buffs. The Korean electronics giant claims the iPad design is prior art from the film 2001: A Space Odyssey as well as from the British TV show The Tomorrow People. In their declaration they show a still shot from Space Odyssey where two astronauts are eating dinner while looking at rectangular tablets. Forty-three years later and the dinner table doesn’t look much different. Is this enough to get Samsung’s Galaxy off the hook?
